St. Michael Parish offers a robust music ministry. We are currently rebuilding the Adult choir with talented parishioners composed of High School students, working professionals, and Seniors, who sing at our Sunday noon Mass autumn through spring. There are also core professional cantors, and Middle Schoolers, who gather to sing at select liturgies throughout the year, including the Christmas Family Mass. Children’s Chorus also rehearses to sing at several Family Masses throughout the year.

The hymns, solos, and instrumental offerings at our celebrations are diverse, and lift up our sung prayer at over two hundred fifty liturgies each year. With a mixture of older, well-known music and some newer music by gifted composers, we want to encourage our parishioners to feel more and more comfortable raising their voices in praise!

The Adult Choir is committed to serving the greater Greenwich Community, having sponsored food drives during the pandemic to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor, hosting the New Parishioner welcome brunch, as well as presenting outreach concerts throughout the area.

Norms for Music Ministry
In October 2018, Bishop Frank J. Caggiano announced the norms, or rules, governing liturgical and sacramental practices in the Diocese of Bridgeport, were revised over the next four years. “When we concluded the diocesan synod, one of the major initiatives which I confirmed was the need to revise the diocesan sacramental guidelines,” said Bishop Caggiano. “The sacramental guidelines are really the depository of all the norms and guidelines that allow us to pray effectively and reverently as a Church.”

Liturgical worship is given a more noble form when the divine offices are celebrated solemnly in song, with the assistance of sacred ministers and the active participation of the people. Religious singing by the people is to be intelligently fostered so that in devotions and sacred exercises, as also during liturgical services, the voices of the faithful may ring out according to the norms and requirements of the rubrics.
