What is the Emmaus Men’s Group?

The Emmaus Men’s Group is a faith-based brotherhood rooted at St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Greenwich, CT. Although based at St. Michael’s, we welcome men from all parishes and walks of life who are seeking a deeper spiritual connection.

What Happens at the Emmaus Retreat?

The Emmaus Retreat for Men is a weekend-long experience led by lay people. It is inspired by the Gospel of Luke (Luke 24:13–35), where two disciples encounter the risen Christ in a profound way on the road to Emmaus.

This guided retreat is designed to renew and strengthen our relationship with Jesus Christ. The “
Walking Disciples” are invited to step away from the distractions and demands of everyday life to experience God’s love more fully.

The retreat offers time for prayer and worship, the celebration of Mass and the Sacraments, and immersion in faith-filled, Scripture-centered conversations. There is also space for silence, reflection, and meaningful fellowship.

The weekend retreat provides a safe, non-judgmental environment to reignite and deepen one’s faith through prayer, discussion, and meals. Through presentations, small group discussions, and other activities, the
Emmaus Retreat provides opportunities to share feelings, experiences, and challenges as we strive to live a faith-based life and help guide our families and our communities.

With hearts awakened to the presence of Jesus among us, the
Emmaus Retreat becomes an opportunity to deepen in faith and connect with others on the same grace-filled journey. It is a sacred time set apart for a personal encounter with our loving God — so alive and present in our midst.

Who Can Attend the Emmaus Men’s Retreat?

The retreat is open to men aged 21 and older. You do not need to be a practicing Catholic to attend. Many men who join the Emmaus Retreat (“Walking Disciples”) have felt distant from their faith. Through this experience, many have renewed their relationship with God, deepened their spiritual lives, and reconnected with the Church.

What Happens after the Retreat?

After participating in the Emmaus Retreat, the “Walking Disciples” are invited to join, at their convenience, any of our weekly meetings that continue year-round. At these meetings, we pray, discuss Scripture and other faith-based topics. Importantly, we support each other in keeping the Way, the Truth, and the Life front and center in our individual lives. Despite all the challenges of today’s world, we find time to re-center ourselves with God. And yes, sometimes we socialize over pizza and refreshments at our gatherings.

The Emmaus Men’s Group is not a secret society. However, it is a ‘brotherhood’ of men who share a love of Christ and the Blessed Mother. It follows the teachings of the Catholic Church and instruction from its clergy. We share each other’s joys and challenges through discussion, and most importantly, prayer.

Simply put, joining Emmaus is a wonderful way to make new friends with a group of men who are journeying on the same winding road, working to keep their priorities guided by the Lord.
