Faith Formation Overview

Faith Formation Overview

Our Mission

To support the parents of the Parish in helping their children grow in their understanding of our faith and deepen their relationship with our Lord. We encourage our children to participate actively in the celebration of the Eucharist and the life of the Parish and to take seriously the study of Scripture and sound Catholic doctrine.

Family Formation: (Levels 1 - 6)

Parents and children receive twice monthly lessons on the first and third Sunday every month. Level 1 & level 2 (usually grades 1 & 2) will leave the church following the homily to have their own lesson. Level 1 will use the Faith & Life series, Our Heavenly Father, and Level 2 will use the Dynamic Catholic series, Blessed, by Matthew Kelly.

Following the Mass, a short faith-based video followed by discussion led by the priest will be given to the remaining children in Levels 3-6 and ALL parents. Families work together at home for the remainder of the month using My Catholic Faith Delivered online. Our formation puts emphasis on the role of parents as the first witnesses of the faith and is designed for students in Levels 1-6.

Confirmation Preparation: (Levels 7 & 8)

Candidates meet once or twice a month for lessons, completing the Chosen program & saint book (for 7th grade only). Classes take place on Sunday mornings at 10:45 AM following the 9:45 AM family Mass and before the 12:00 PM noon Mass. Having the Confirmation lessons take place between Masses gives families the opportunities to attend Mass together.

Immediate Confirmation Prep: (Level 8)
Candidates prepare by completing a series of adoration visits, receive the sacrament of Confession and participate in a retreat to allow them to reflect on how to live out the commitment they make to Christ in Confirmation and review key concepts of the faith.

Our religious education program has a spiral approach in which learning builds upon previous years of experience and knowledge. Therefore, if a child has missed one or more years of religious instruction the child might be placed in a lower level. This placement may depend on formal, written or verbal assessments given by the office and the evaluation of the particular circumstances of the child.

In addition to the Family Formation lessons, our office supports the Parish community by encouraging the active participation of our families in the celebration of the Holy Mass, other liturgies and devotions, faith formation activities, parish events, and community service projects.
